Joshua’s Journey: Cherwell College Oxford. Joshua recently completed his A-Levels at Cherwell College Oxford with an extraordinary achievement, earning three A* grades in Physics, Chemistry, and Maths. Reflecting on his time at the College, Joshua shared his thoughts on the programme, describing how his tutors covered the syllabus efficiently. “By the third term, we were mostly revising and preparing for the exams,” Joshua said, highlighting the structured and supportive environment at Cherwell.

Beyond his academic successes, Joshua’s story is unique as he balances his passion for science with a love for art. Despite his science-heavy subjects, he fondly recalled how art had been a constant source of relaxation and enjoyment throughout his life. From attending art classes as a child to participating in art electives at his previous school, Joshua has always found solace in creativity. “It’s very calming,” he remarked. “It allows me to unwind and focus on something for myself rather than studies.”

Joshua’s multifaceted talents and interests made him a standout member of the Cherwell community, not only excelling in rigorous subjects but also nurturing his creative side. His ability to blend his passion for science and art is an inspiring example of how varied interests can complement each other.

Looking ahead, Joshua has applied to several prestigious universities, including Imperial, Oxford, Nottingham, Bristol, and Manchester, but his decision on which to attend is deferred. Joshua will first fulfil his National Service in Singapore, an exciting yet challenging experience that will further shape his character. He spoke about how this period of service, which involves training on an island away from the mainland, will require him to adapt to a new level of discipline and independence.

When asked about his chosen field of study, Joshua explained his interest in Biochemistry with Biotechnology, driven by the rise of biotech companies and advancements in genetic engineering. “A lot of startups and companies are focusing on biotech, and I want to be part of that,” he said. Joshua’s passion for cutting-edge scientific fields mirrors his drive for excellence, and it’s clear that he is ready to be part of the next wave of technological innovation.

His experience at Cherwell College Oxford has not only prepared him academically but also shaped him as an independent individual. Boarding at Cherwell was different from his previous experiences, offering him more responsibility and autonomy. “You have to learn how to manage yourself and your studies,” he explained. This newfound independence will undoubtedly serve him well as he embarks on the next phase of his journey.
