Right from the start, Prefects and returning students play an important part in encouraging new students to get involved and get the most out of their life at Cherwell. While welfare and academic members of staff are there to provide pastoral care and encourage new students both inside and outside of the classroom environment. Regular academic and welfare meetings feature in students’ timetables where more support and guidance are required. For boarders, there is a specifically designed ‘House Assembly’ every Sunday which serves as a forum for students to ask any questions and to discuss any business of the day or upcoming important events.

The College has dedicated Clinical Psychologist, Occupational Therapist, Speech and Language Therapist who can be commissioned to assist individual student deal with any emotional or SEN needs.

This requirement must be discussed during the interview and prior to admission in order to ensure that proper provision is in place prior to the student’s start date at the College.

Parents must be forthcoming with information and ensure that the College is properly informed of any specific or SEN needs the student might have for the College to accommodate for these.

No. In contrast to many UK boarding schools, the College remains open to boarders every weekend during term-time. Students can ask to leave the campus on exeat so long as parental permission is provided via email and a form is filled in for the Head of Boarding beforehand.

Yes. The residence remains open during the half-term breaks, and it is possible for students to stay during this period provided the student follows the relevant life and study routine as set by the boarding house for a particular half-term break.

Please note that there will be extra charge for any extra stay outside of regular term time.

Yes and No.

The College residence is open during term time, half-terms, Easter and Summer.

Christmas is the only time when Cherwell House is closed due to the customary shutdown period.

During Easter, the College runs Easter Revision Courses and any students looking to stay at the residence would be required to attend formal studies.

During Summer, the College runs courses in August, please enquire separately about specific dates from the College Secretary secretary@cherwell-college.co.uk

The kitchen and dining room does its best to provide a range of meal options to suit the dietary needs of vegetarians, those holding religious beliefs – such as Muslims requiring halal food and those who have allergies or intolerances to certain foods.

Please ensure that any specific dietary requirements are properly communicated to the College at the point of registration and listed on the student’s Medical Form for the Welfare Team to inform the kitchen accordingly.  

Food will be different from that which some students are used to consuming back home while trying to cater for a range of international tastes and appetites.

Any medical conditions, which the College must be aware of to ensure welfare and wellbeing of students whilst in our care must be notified during the interview prior to enrolment. This is essential that parents are forthcoming with information for the College to discuss with parents and agree any specific arrangements, which need to be put in place.

The same goes for any prescribed medication. A few students, whilst fit to attend the College, may require medication during the college hours. In addition, it may be necessary for students with long term complaints or chronic illness such as asthma or diabetes to receive medication.

Parents are requested to list any prescribed medication the student is taking on the student’s Medical Form for the Welfare Team to ensure that it is properly administered during the college hours.

The College has a Medical/Rest Room facility on-site at Cherwell House (Student Residence) and the main Study Centre Building – St George’s Mansions, where any prescribed medications can be administered. The College will require parents to produce a doctor’s note with instructions on doses and timings for each medication which needs to be administered.

It is therefore, important to discuss any such requirement in good time and prior to student’s enrolment to ensure that the Welfare Team is in possession of the necessary information when the student joins the College.
