Oxfordshire Artweeks
The College is delighted to announce its participation in the Oxfordshire Artweeks 2023 which will take place in May.
Cherwell College Art Gallery will host a multidisciplinary exhibition which aims to explore art in different forms and the significant role it plays to address global issues and how we collectively, as a humanity, interpret the past, embrace the present, and shape the future.
The change of epochs is always a period of rethinking and reassessment of what humanity has done in previous years. It also defines the birth of new expectations, the revival of hope and faith in a better future. Rebirth of hope is a human experience of the turn of the century.
What can we hope for? How does art reveal itself in new, complex realities? Can art truly capture and portray the everchanging human condition? How is it related to science? What is the meaning of education in the future? What functions should human intelligence perform in the presence of an artificial one?
Is culture the starting point of our journey?
During Art Weeks, the Сollege will present two of its areas related to art.
First is Cherwell Art, an exhibition of artworks from college tutors and students. Graham Coles and Dorothy Megaw are artists with an immense experience helping the new generation view the world through art. The works of their students are also very impressive and talented.
Another project – Ukrainian Culture Weeks – is a charity initiative of the college aimed at supporting Ukrainian artists, who, like all Ukrainians, found themselves in a difficult situation due to the war launched by Russia. The first Ukrainian Culture Weeks were held in Oxford in autumn 2022 and became one of the main cultural events of the year.
The Rebirth of Hope is a multidisciplinary project that brings together recognised artists and talented young people to explore the answers to important philosophical questions of our time.
Cherwell College Oxford is a hub where the experience of the past is fused with the challenges of the present to revive hope for the future.
